Heartopia Photo Mode Guide — How to Take Pictures

Heartopia photo mode lets you capture screenshots with a dedicated camera tool. You are not limited to Steam's screenshot button — photo mode gives you camera controls, filters, depth of field, character poses, and a timer. The feature is hidden in the emote menu by default, which is why many players miss it. This guide shows you how to use every photo mode feature to make your Heartopia screenshots look amazing.

Photo mode controls

• Open photo mode: Press P or select from the emote wheel (smile icon).
• Camera controls: WASD moves the camera. Scroll wheel zooms. Right mouse button rotates. Left mouse button tilts.
• Filters: 12 filter presets including Warm, Cool, Vintage, Soft Glow, Noir, and Pastel.
• Depth of field: Adjustable blur strength and focal distance. Great for portrait shots.
• Character poses: 8 character poses (wave, sit, jump, dance, think, point, kneel, sleep).
• Timer: 3-second or 10-second delay for group shots.

Sharing your photos

Photos save to your Steam screenshot folder by default. You can also submit them to the Heartopia community gallery on the official website. The best community screenshots often feature creative house interiors with warm lighting. Use the depth of field setting to blur background furniture and focus on your character or a specific decor piece. Avoid the 'Noir' filter for outdoor shots — it kills the game's colorful charm. Save that filter for moody rainy-day interiors.
