The Heartopia house building guide starts with a truth: the editor is intimidating for the first 15 minutes. There are no grids, no snap points unless you enable them, and the material system lets you swap wall textures floor by floor. But once the interface clicks, it is the best free house builder in any life sim right now. This guide covers the essentials.

Editor basics

Press B to enter Build Mode. The left panel has four tabs: Structure (walls, floors, roofs, doors, windows), Furniture (tables, chairs, beds, decorations), Lighting (ceiling lamps, wall sconces, floor lamps, color temperature sliders), and Terrain (ground textures, fences, pathways for outdoor lots). Each item costs in-game coins or requires a blueprint. Blueprints are earned through hobby level-ups and event rewards.

• Enable Snap Mode (hotkey G) to align walls and furniture to a half-tile grid.
• Use Copy Room to duplicate an entire room layout onto another floor.
• Outdoor furniture goes on your lawn, not inside. Switch to Outdoor mode with the top toggle.
• Roof types: flat, sloped, gabled. Each supports different window placements.

Co-building with friends

Friends can build on your lot if you grant Editor permissions in the Lot Settings menu. Co-builders see a different color cursor and their changes are highlighted in their name color. You can undo any change from the history panel. Co-building is real-time — both players can place items simultaneously. This is the fastest way to furnish a large house since materials and blueprints are shared during the session.
